HoopTV Las Vegas Classic Team Previews

Here's a quick look at the 8 teams who will be participating in the 2009 HoopTV Las Vegas Classic December 22nd-23rd at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas:

Brigham Young Universitylv-classic
After earning the Mountain West Conference regular season title and a trip to the NCAA tournament for the third-straight year in 2009, BYU men’s basketball will look to make it four in a row in 2009-10. Head coach Dave Rose returns nine members from last year’s squad—including four starters—and welcomes four talented newcomers. Junior Jimmer Fredette leads the team in scoring at 20.2 PPG.

University of Nebraska
Nebraska Head Coach Doc Sadler heads into the 2009-2010 Big 12 season with high hopes and expectations. Currently standing at 5-1, the Cornhuskers recorded notable wins over the University of Southern California and TCU. The Cornhuskers return 4 seniors lead by former Lynwood HS (CA) star Sek (Seketoure) Henry. Senior guard Ryan Anderson leads the team in scoring at 12.3 PPG.

University of Nevada (Reno)
Head Coach David Carter leads the Wolf Pack into the HoopTV Las Vegas Classic with notable wins over Montana State and Houston. The Wolf Pack features four outstanding scorers in So. Forward Luke Babbit (19.2 PPG), Sr. Guard Brandon Fields (16.2 PPG), Jr Guard Armon Johnson (16.0 PPG) and Sr. Forward Joey Shaw (14.2 PPG). Also, keep an eye on transfer Guard Malik Story out of Artesia High School (CA) by way of Indiana University.

University of Tulsa
Tulsa Men’s Head Coach Doug Wojcik knows the history of the basketball program at Tulsa. Three former Hurricane head coaches, Nolan Richardson, Tubby Smith and Bill Self all had stops in Tulsa, and he knows much is expected of him as well. Coach Wojcik returns four seniors to his squad, which currently is led in scoring by 7 foot Senior Center Jerome Jordan at about 15.3 PPG.

Eastern Washington University
EWU Head Coach Kirk Earlywine leads his team from Cheney, Washington, into the Hoop TV Las Vegas Classic led by Sr. Forward Mark Dunn (13.0 PPG) and 5’7” Sr. Guard Benny Valentine (13.0 PPG).

Chicago State University
Head Coach Benjy Taylor looks to 6’7” Jr. Forward Carl Montgomery to lead his squad with a 17.0 PPG average for the 2009-2010 season.

Jackson State University
Representing the SWAC, Jackson State University enters the HoopTV Las Vegas Classic led by Head Coach Tevester Anderson and a pair of big men, 6’ 10” Jr. Center Gertavian Blake and 6’ 10” Fr. Center Raymond Gregory.

Wagner College
Head Coach Mike Deane leads the Wagner Seahawks out of the Staten Island section of New York City looking for wins in the 2009 HoopTV Las Vegas Classic. Starting the season 0-5, the Seahawks are lead by 5’ 11” So. Guard Chris Martin averaging 12.5 PPG.
